Amazonas Animal Park
At only 15km from Agios Nikolaos, lies the Animal Park "Amazonas", in the general area of Neapoli town. It is a small zoo, but full of surprises for the children. Various parrots and exotic birds, including a Tucan, beautiful Makak monkey families, Ginea pigs, turtles, and other animals await for you and your whole family. Daily boat trips are offered from the port of Ierapetra. The car trip from Agios Nikolaos to Elounda is one of the most eye-pleasing routes in all of Crete. Foursquare | Directions Mochlos Village At 44km East of Agios Nikolaos, a fishing village, and an absolute relaxation paradise. You can enjoy the beach and definitely the fish tavernas. It is a home of history as the "brothers" of the monastery have been involved in all the wars against Greek freedom. You can visit both Plakias town as well as the monastery. Nearby lies an amazing palm forest that is crossed by a river ending in the Southern sea. Cretaquarium
Near the capital of Crete, Heraklion (approx 70km from Agios Nikolaos), lies the Cretan equivalent of sea-world. Its a beautiful place to visit with the family. Dates back to the neolithic period (7.000-3.000 BC), the remains of an ancient civilization, the Minoans. A must for history addicts, only 65km from Agios Nikolaos.
